The CKS Pipeline Pillow is a new reinforced laminated product designed to elevate and protect gas pipe in rocky conditions. This custom manufactured, patent-pending product is specifically designed to conform to the ground below while providing the structural stability needed to bridge and hold the weight of the pipe above. The CKS Pipeline Pillow measures 12” wide and 8” high which helps to insure that your pipe will stay away from the abrasive ground surface.
The CKS Pipeline Pillow has an adjustable strap with a non-metallic buckle which allows you to place and secure the unit to the pipe before placing it into the trench. Each CKS Pipeline Pillow also has a semi-circle carved into the unit which holds the pipe directly in the middle of the CKS Pipeline Pillow. Each unit weighs less than four pounds and will take the place of the 40 pound sandbags currently being used to protect the pipe from the rocks below.
One CKS Pipeline Pillow is equal to six well placed sandbags. A four pound CKS Pipeline Pillow replaces 240 pounds of sand. No need for an on-site sandbag filling machine or heavy totes. CKS Pipe Line Pillow helps to prevent back injuries commonly associated with the repetitive lifting of heavy sandbags or wooden timbers. CKS Pipeline Pillow helps to reduce the number of workers needed at each jobsite. At 15 foot spacing, using 353 Pillows per mile can save you the labor and cost associated with 2,118 sandbags needed to accomplish the same task.
We would like to introduce you to a new product manufactured by CKS Foam Products and distributed by the JMD Company. The CKS Pipeline Pillow is a patent-pending lightweight product designed to elevate and protect gas pipe in rocky conditions. The PLP is less than 3 lbs. each and eliminates the need for multiple 40 lb. sandbags and blown-in foam products.
The PLP is manufactured specifically to bridge loads and each PLP can handle approximately 2300 lbs. with little deflection and no loss of memory. This means that once the Pipe is placed in the PLP’s cradle, strapped on and lowered to the ground, the pillow will only deflect about an inch. Once placed on the ground, if you were to raise the pipe back into the air and take off the Pipeline Pillow, you would see that the PLP will immediately return to its original height and shape with no damage caused by the weight of the pipe. We can achieve this structural stability due to the addition of a high density foam polymer and a cross lamination technique, which is specifically designed to bridge and dissipate loads.
Millions of dollars each year are spent by the energy companies and pipeline construction companies on workers’ compensation claims. A vast majority of these claims are directly related to laborers placing “sand-filled pillows.” Each CKS Pipeline Pillow is equivalent to six to eight sandbags. Eight sandbags weigh 320 lbs. and, when distributed every 15 feet, a mile of sandbags weighs 112,650 lbs. At 3 lbs. each, a mile of 36” CKS Pipeline Pillows weighs a total of 1056 lbs. The PLP will drastically reduce compensation claims due to back related issues.
Now let’s talk production. A full pallet of 36” long PLP’s weighs only 108 lbs. There are 36 on a pallet. When placed every 15’, a pallet will cover 540 LF of pipe. Each pallet can easily be tipped and pushed in the back of a pick-up truck by one laborer in no time. These same 36” PLP’s can be placed on the pipe in less than 2 minutes each by the same laborer.
At six sandbags every 15’, you would need 216 sandbags, which is almost 3 super sacks of sandbags (77 each per super sack) to equal one pallet of 36” PLP’s. To place 216 sandbags, you would need two to three laborers for an entire day, a Morooka, and a track hoe. To place one pallet of PLP’s, you would need just one laborer and a pick-up truck and it could be finished in less than 2 hours.

C) When using the PLP, the same mile would require only 352 pieces, at a total weight of 1,056 lbs.
D) The PLP is to be strapped on the pipe before placement in the ditch. No need to get in the ditch or throw sandbags in the ditch.
